Invading the Wrong Space

The past brings up a lot of subjects, your first girlfriend, space invaders, the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. So what happens when you put two of them together? And yes your girlfriend and invading her space would make a good story but that's not the correct combination now is it? Recently at the GH ART exhibit held at the Games Convention in Germany a piece was featured that depicted the 9/11 attack using space invaders.

Now some things in life sound like a good idea and some things don't, I'm not a betting man, but I would bet this is one of those things that wasn't a good idea. If you squint really hard and hold your breath while cocking your head to the side you can vaguely see where the artist was coming from. Considering the sensitivity of this subject I'm sure many people weren't squinting or cocking. The piece labeled Invaders! showed a relentless attack on the twin towers. The onslaught is too heavy for the player to stop and as a result the towers are destroyed. The Game Over screen asks the player to "Support Our Troops!" Seems like not such a bad thing right? Actually it's not too bad, I personally can see where the artist was coming from.

But I can also see where everyone else is coming from also, so did the artist. He recently requested his piece be pulled. The culprit here is Douglas Edric Stanley, who has recently had some nasty attacks on his blog. As for the actual space invaders they have been relieved of any responsibility as they were used without permission. Some things in life are just obvious, this happen so to be one of those things. Stanley even blogged about it before doing it in which he received negative response. All in all art is art and we all have different ways about thinking, we should respect each other's opinion and try not to disrespect anyone in this process.
